How to Package Your Golf Club Ready For Shipping

If you are looking to ship a single golf club, the below advice lists everything you need to know to ship it safely. 

We will use the scenario that you are perhaps an aspiring pro who has replaced their driver with a TaylorMade R15 at a pricey £399 and want to sell your old one. 

In truth it doesn't matter if you are Rory Mcilroy, Justin Rose or just enjoy smashing balls on a driving range, looking after the tools of your trade is the right thing to do!

How to Pack a Single Golf Club

If you have sold a single Golf Club  the last thing you need is for it to be damaged by the couriers. To combat this, you need a suitable box for a golf club!

In order to choose the right box, you 1st need to know the size of your golf club to make sure if fits properly. Not too tightly or loosely, you need it to sit snugly so it doesn’t move but also doesn’t damage your box because its poking out the end.  

Golf Clubs don’t come with a standard length, but for the purposes of this guide, let’s imagine we are packing a driver that is 115cm long, with a head that’s 10cm long. 

You could simply place your club into a suitably sized cardboard box and more often than not it would get delivered perfectly fine.

That approach is ok with a worn old 7-iron, but not with an expensive Callaway driver.

What Material do You Need to Package a Golf Club?

• Fragile/Packing Tape
• A suitable cardboard box
• Bubble wrap
• Packing Paper
• 1 polythene bag

How Do You Package a Golf Club?

• Make sure your golf club shaft is wrapped in 2 layers of bubble wrap and secured tightly with brown tape.

• Wrap the head separately in plenty of bubble wrap so you can barely feel the head when squeezed. Secure the bubble wrap with plenty of packaging tape.

• Use a polythene bag to insert the club into, this will protect it from dust and moisture. Secure this with more brown tape. 

• Use screwed up packing paper pieces or more bubble wrap to create a cushion at the  at the bottom of your box. Then place your club into the box.

• Fill any remaining space around the club with packing paper – making sure your club isn’t touching the inner sides of the box.

• Secure the box flaps and spine with 2-3 layers of packaging tape an if possible, put fragile tape down 2 sides of the box to add an extra layer of protection. 

• Place a shipping label at the top and bottom of the box so that it doesn’t need to be moved excessively by the courier warehouse staff or delivery drivers to perform their scanning duties
